Rally (Heb. Qabats): Assemble, Gather, Bring Together, Heap, Resort
There is a trumpet’s call sounding forth to the saints in all the earth today to which there must come a response that will unite the Body of Christ, as we rally to the trumpet’s call.
As in the days of Nehemiah there is much opposition in our time to the people, purpose and work of the Lord. In this day of confusion, chaos, and darkness we need to hear the clear voice of the trumpet’s call to lead, direct and shine forth the way through the madness.
The Apostle used the metaphor of the trumpet in his Epistle to the Corinthians, saying: “And even things without life giving sound whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” (I Corinthians 14:7-8).
From the days of Moses, the Trumpet has been the instrument of rally (cf. Numbers 10:1-3). At the sounding of the trumpet the people prepared themselves for assembly. Whether sounded by the Prophet (Isaiah 58:1); Priest (Numbers 10:8) or Angel of God (Revelation 8:13) the message was always clear and direct. Whether a call to repentance, preparation for battle, warning of imminent danger, or coming disaster, or command to “come up hither” (Revelation 4:1), to be shown things to come, the trumpet’s call was a call to gather, to assemble to the Lord.
The Trumpet’s Call is also a call to freedom (Leviticus 25:9-10) in the Day of Atonement, and the year of Jubilee “to proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”. It is a call to restoration and returning, each one gathering to his family. It is a call to rest. It is a call to holiness. It is a call to fear the Lord and to keep His commandments and judgments for His blessing awaits those who will obey His voice.
The Trumpet of the Lord is sounding forth today and those who are awake, aware, listening, discerning and wise can hear it and will rally to its call. It is time to gather. It is time to assemble. It is time to unite and prepare for battle. Our God will fight for us for the battle is the Lord’s.
Yet, there is one last Trumpet to sound and all to be gathered to its call.
“Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (I Corinthians 15:51-52). “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (I Thessalonians 4:16-17).
Oh, what a rally that shall be. What a gathering. What an assembly when the Trumpet calls.
Behold, He comes, riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun at the trumpet’s call
Lift your voice, in the year of Jubilee
Out of Zion’s Hill salvation comes!
